Lahaina Sunshine Market

Right on Front Street, Lahaina (Maui), Hawaii (Ellen K. Geary)

Ellen K. Geary built Sunshine Market when the island re-opened, post-covid. She got the keys 5/1/21 and opened the store on the first day of summer in June. It was an entirely new venture for her. It was a spontaneous and beautiful experience that she self-funded and built it with her heart. The market had an incredible location next to the Banyan Tree on Front St.

The shop concept was an “all-natural neighborhood market”. Products sourced from small local vendors and curated a refined offering of sustainable goods to the local community and island visitors. The shop served them with healthy option grab and go options for breakfast and lunch, all-natural body care and last-minute gifts. For the island visitors, Sunshine Market became a fast favorite. The market helped introduce them to local artisans and also made sure that they had a wonderful experience during their vacation.

Ellen and employees had a strong mission to “share the sunshine” with everyone. In their second year of business, they were honored with the nominations of: -Best New Business -Best Boutique -Best Gift Store

Then came August 8, 2023.

Ellen was in the Sunshine Market on Front Street all day on the day of the fire. She was there running a generator, cleaning and helping locals/regulars who had no power. Then she became a first responder to a fire fighter that was dragged behind a moving car and was able to help resuscitate him and stayed with him until medics arrived! Luckily he’s doing well now!!

On the Highway, Ellen got out of her car and helped others make a second lane of traffic to help get hundreds of cars out of Lahaina. She left her car behind to help…and just didn’t know if would be so bad. She left Lahaina at 4:48 with other. There were people in the water in front of her store at 5:17.
